Exporting Voicememos out of iTunes ??

    by puerh.tj ·

    Hey!

    I have an iPhone 5 and a Macbook with OS X 10.9.5.

In my phone I have some voice recordings, that I could only extract by importing to iTunes. But in iTunes I can only make a playlist with the selected recordings: But I cannot extract them out as regular files to back up into my external harddrive.

I’ve been scraping my brains out trying to solve this issue. Doing tons of research as well — and tried one external application without success.

    Help any one ?

    Cheers!

Was this made with the Voice Memos app on the phone?
      Or something else.

      1. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206775 tells us we can share this via a few methods.

      2. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204310 notes another path but there may be some missing detail here about iTunes version, etc.

      3. AUDACITY: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/mac/
For over a decade I’ve used Audacity to re-record when direct access is not possible. It’s a fallback to ideas 1 and 2 as we record what we play from iTunes.

        iTunes version 12.6.2.20

It was indeed made with the Voice Memos app on the phone.

I cannot even import them to my local iTunes library. This is really weird, no?

just dragging the files out of iTunes and on to the desktop.Should just create an audio file there with the original still intact in iTunes

Hey man I accidentally made your question best answer even tho we didn’t solve anything yet, haha

        Anyway,
        It is version 12.6.2.20

Yes, they were made on the Voice Memos app on the phone.
I cannot even import them into my local iTunes library.

Hey! This works for local files. But I should have mentioned already that I cannot even import the files from my phone to my local iTunes library.

Also with the dragging solution, the original file names are lost, which in my case is a pain in the ***.

        Thanks!!

Hey! Thanks for your solution it kind of works.
I have two problems with this solution however:

        1. It doesn’t keep the original file names: I have A LOT of files referenced by name. So this solution is a pain in the *** (but at least it is a solution!)

        2. I originally sorted the files into different playlists. This I did in iTunes — but within the Phone under the Device tab. — So using the option to drag out files from the Voice Memos folder, which automatically imports into the local iTunes*, I lose the playlist I have created. Any workaround?

        * Another problem here is that for some reason it doesn’t update the latest files quite often. (Even after clicking refresh / import files).

        Thanks!

I see numerous complaint about the title of the voice memo bearing no relationship to the actual contents, with no fix, although there are a couple of software pieces that claim to do it nicely.

          No recommendations on that front.
