Extending Boot partition

By jonathan.gray ·

Does anyone know of any third part software that will allow me to extend a fat boot partition.

I seem to remember that this was possible with FAT, but not NTFS can you confirm this.
On a NT system.

PowerQuests partition Magic Ver.8.0 should do NTFS without rebooting. It covers FAT 16/32 as well

Use Partition Magic.

If your Boot partition is FAT16, the limit is 2047 MB (or 2GB).
You may convert FAT16 to NTFS (not FAT32!) using Partition Magic and then extend the partition to the size you want.

If the System Partition (where Boot.ini, NTLDR, and reside) and the Boot partition (where Winnt resides) are in the same volume (typically C:), make sure the partition size does not go over 7.8GB. This is an issue that had been addressed by Microsoft and others.
