I have a 1tb external USB WDC drive and earlier today it stopped working properly.
It spins up just fine but when it shows up under my drives it no longer has the assigned label and letter “I:BigUSB”. now it just calls itself “H:local disk” and reports 0 bytes.
Weirder still is when I plug in my USB SD reader (which usually holds H:), the 1TB drive no longer detects as a valid USB device.
This has worked for two months flawlessly and has over 400GB free. Nothing is irreplaceable fortunately but a lot of time will be lost if I cannot recover the drive.
Any help anyone can offer would be appreciated!
