External CD writer not detected in XP

By choy.waigiat ·
There is a yellow exclamation mark on USB Mass Storage Device in device manager.
It says that "Windows cannot load the device for this hardware because a duplicate device is already running in the system (code 42)".

I have a internal CDROM installed in the PC.

anyone can help?

thanks and regards,

You could give this a try...

1) Uninstall the "USB Mass Storage Device" (right-click on it and select "Uninstall...");

2) Shut down your computer;

3) Plug the external CD-Writer into a different USB port;

4) Restart your computer.

I hope this helps - Good luck !
