External connection to NT4.0 network

Tring to copy large files stored in non-USB NT 4.0 (service pack 6)network computer. Tried unsuccesfully with external parallel Zip Drive. Network will not assign Zip Drive letter after driver installation. Any ideas on how to make the Zip Drive work or any alternate connection?
