External drive “thinks” USB-2 is USB-1

My external drive from Acomdata (whose support doesn’t bother to reply) stopped recognizing USB-2 ports. After a couple of months I started getting the type of messages one got on old computers: “This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port”. I have a desktop and a laptop, ALL USB ports are USB-2 and everything else (including other external drives work perfectly with those ports. So it’s not the drivers on my computers. In Acomdata’s manual it says the drive automatically recognizes the speed. When I try to update the drive’s USB driver it says everything is up to date… Can anyone help?
