External Hard drive

I have a mac and an external 60 gig maxtor Hard drice. when i try to access the drive it asks if i want to initialize the drive. I have a lot of important files on this drive and do not want to loose them. Please help....

If the drive is not being "seen" (where it used to operate just fine), you need to find a data recovery specialist that specializes in mac computers.

First thing you want to do is eliminate the external electronics and the usb port.

You can remove that drive from the external case and install in in any ide capable mac. Make sure it is jumpered correctly. (if the current mac drive is cs then jumper this drive cs).

Once in the machine, if you can mount it, copy your files immediatly.

If it won't mount and disk first aid doesn't see it. It is time for data recovery.
