External hard drive no longer appears

By unknown1995 ·
My external hard drive stopped working after I put it into an old computer (which I know for sure does not have a virus). I was aware that files could not be copied into the hard drive and when I re-opened the window, the folder was empty. Futhermore, there was a pop-up indicating that there was some data loss (to my memory as I skimmed over the pop-up and ignored it).

The hard drive is now no longer identifiable on other devices as well as the computer.

Is there a way to fix this or an explanation?

You can try plugging it into the computer you normally use it on and assuming that it is some form of Windows involved run Check Disk Repair from the Command Line.

The way to do this will be listed in the Help Files on your computer.
