I have an external 120GB HDD, you know, one of those cigarette packet sized devices that basically is a laptop HDD in a case. Worked perfectly until recently when it would not open. Anyway it has about 80GB (mostly old scanned photos)of information on it. When I plug it into the laptop (compaq 2500 running XP) the machine slows down, diskmanagement eventually sees the drive after 50 mins (oh! by the way you have to rescan to get this far) but it shows 111GB free and no other data present. It allowed me to change the drive letter but that didnt change the outcome. When I remove the device the screens clear and the laptop is back to normal. I have tried just about every solution I can find on the net. Can anyone help?
