EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE WON’T DETECT via USB 2.0 cardbus! HELP?

by silverywater . Updated 17 years, 10 months ago

I have 2 new external 2.5 hdd: seagate sata 160GB, fujitsu ide 120GB. My laptop is a p4 1.8ghz, 768Ram, xp pro,sp2, with 4 usb 1.1 ports. Recently, I installed a pcmcia 32bit PC combo card with 2 firewire & 2 usb 2. ports. The combo card detects my 8GB Flash drive, and my memory card reader no problem.

When I plug in either of my 2 external 2.5 hdd via the pcmcia usb 2.0 cardbus, they are not detected and I cannot access them. There is no drive letter or icon that shows up in : My Computer or on Taskbar. I tried plugging in 2 usb cables via a y-split cable to see if it was a power issue. I also tried plugging in my 8gb flash drive & external hdd into the combo cardbus at the same time. My Computer showed my 8GB flash drive but no external hdd! Both hdd Drives show up when I plug them into my usb 1.0 ports but they are so slow!

Any feedback is much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
