External Harddisk Unreadable Corrupted and Not recognized

by varun . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

Hi,

I have bought a mercury 320gb external hdd which requires a power source to be switched on. It is probable due to some excessive traveling that my hdd must have got corrupted.

First, When i switch it on, there is always this click click click click sound and then some whirling and nothing that sounds good and only spells trouble.

Secondly, My computer knows that there is something connected. It comes in Disk Drives in
Device Manager as “WDC…..”. However, it doesnt come up in “My Computer” and when i go to Storage to Disk Management, it does not show up there as well.

This means i cannot read it, give it a disk name, partition it nor format it.

This is all using the normal tips i have found by using Windows Xp..

I had tried Disk Password protector where to my delight i found that it was there but then it had only 18 gb unallocated and was unreadable and i could not format it from there.

Is there anything i can do or any program i can download that will bring back my harddisk from the dead…

I m not interested in recovering my files and i m willing to loose it provided my hdd is working.

Any help appreciated..,

Thanks
