External HDD can not be detected.

By bg567 ·
a while ago I dropped my external HDD of size 90GB, and since then I was enable to access any data on it.

but, last week, I found it, and just for fun plug it my office pc, and it worked just fine, like nothing had ever happen before, I could directly play, copy movies. music and all.

but now, after I kept it connected, for more then 2 days, I have lost it, my XP pc can't detect it any more.

any suggestions??

p.s : I have already connected a extra power supply, and wait for XP to detect it for hours..

Cable ?

it is a simple and also may sounds crazy, but have test the usb cable :). Some times most important solutions may be hidden inside the unexpected cable plastic.

Put it on the shelf for a while

It may be temperature-related. Try turning it off and let it sit for a few days, then try plugging it in again. If you can see the data then, copy it off or back it up right away.

It sounds like the drive is on a death spiral, so save what you can as quickly as you can. (if it's not already to late.)

Good luck
