extracting files fron an MP3 player

By j_a_luter ·
How do you extract files fron an MP3 player which has no Operating System? The OS was erased on mistake, but the files are still on the player. Without the OS, the files cannot be played. I'm trying everything to save my 5500+ music files without having to format my player. Any help? (MP3 player: Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 40GB)

I would remove the HDD, attached it to an USB adaptor, plug into my desktop and extract.

Good luck

By USB adaptor I mean a caddy that will take the HDD from the MP3 player.

You can reinstall the os on the mp3 player. Download from:

1. Hold the play button and reset the player. Keep holding play button until you get a menu with 4 options.
2. Select option 3, reload os and confirm to erase current os.
3. Once erased, plug in player to pc and run the update.

It should then reinstall the os and when done the player will start up and fully working again.

attaching the hdd to a usb adapter will not work as windows will not recognise the drive until you have initialised and format it.

you could try to see if Windows Media Player can view the files on your player. Program/Accessorites/Entertainment/Windows Media Player/Full Mode/Copy to CD or Device (perhaps that suggested backup usb hard drive?)
Here is an article about it:
