Extremely high page file usage

By rmrose ·
Howdy all,
Tonight, when trying to start the old clunker, It is still taking over 1/2 hour to fully boot.
I am on the laptop right now.
When I could get the old one to load the task manager, I could see a page file usage of over 1.30 GIG and no cpu usage.. Zone alarm is still trying to start, and I dont have another firewall other than Microsoft to put in as a test.
Any suggestions?

Start the pc in safe mode. Look into the registry at the run keys. Probably have something or a bunch of somethings loading in there.

It could also be a bad or loose ram chip.

I tried to start in safe, no-go. I tried to delete Zone Alarm to prevent it from slowing everything down, no-go.
I even went into msconfig, and shut things down, no go.
Ah, Well, the wonderful world of computers.
Giving me bald spots since '69.

Reset the Pagefile

by abhiram.gurijala In reply to Extremely high page file ...

The page file might have become corrupt, possibly at a bad shutdown. In the Virtual Memory settings, set to ?No page file,? then exit System Properties, shut down the machine, and reboot.
Based on your need, set the page file up again and reboot to bring it into use.
