Facebook Friends problem on my account

By JADavis9 ·
I have a somewhat serious problem in my Facebook - All Friends list. There are some on there that were never invited by me or accepted by me. I only have 30 friends on there that should be on there. But there are 10 or so that should not be there but can't be removed. Some guy named Amos Young Jr
California State Assembly ? Students for Barack Obama.
and at least 10 others.
If I click the X Remove Friend icon next to him, it pops a box quickly that says Loading and disappears. Nothing ever loads or happens. He remains on my list. So do many others.
I used to get a box popping up when I clicked that same X that said that I wasn't a friend with xxxxxx. Of course, this is an issue since he is on my All Friends list! There are also some women who I don't know who are probably out trying to meet "guys". There are several who share last names with my actual friends, but who don't appear to be related.
There is some big mess going on and I'll bet that Facebook knows that there is something wrong. I have asked Facebook for help a few times with online help requests and have been put on hold.
You cannot seem to call Facebook, as they apparently don't take any customer service phone calls.
I know that Facebook is provided to us for free, but I also understand that we "clients" are the reason that Facebook can charge advertisers to run ads.
Disabling my account and starting over is not a pretty idea, as I have uploaded 100+ pics from my former NASCAR Winston Cup driving career and have tagged many of my 30+ real Facebook friends.
But to be safe, I have removed my home address and phone # from my Facebook profile. Also, I have "blocked" these fake friends so that supposedly then they won't be able to access my profile.
A new development has just occurred recently. Now when I click on the Friend's name in my All Friends list, a new screen pops up saying The page you requested was not found..You may have clicked an expired link or mistyped the address.
So maybe these accounts have been shut down. But when will they disappear from my All Friends list?
Yeah, right! Like I can really trust anything Facebook right now.

Could be many things

by TobiF In reply to Facebook Friends problem ...

Strange friends could happen if you at any time sent an invitation to an email address and that registration code was used to create a totally different account, than you expected. (Maybe, on your first day on fb, without realizing it, you sent invitations to all email addresses in your address book?)

If you have (or have had) malware on your system, then that malware may have sent invitations on your behalf.

Maybe you have some aggressive fb application doing unexpected things?

And, your description looks more like you're trying to organize lists of friends, while you're expecting to unfriend (or delete friends).
To delete a friend, navigate to his page, then in the end of the column with his/her photo, there should be a link "Remove from Friends".

thanks - more info

by JADavis9 In reply to Could be many things

Well, maybe I clicked one of those links months ago that sent out invites to addresses in an address book. I hope not, as that is not something that I would ever do. But I did have a brain injury from an accident and went through lots of stuff while trying to reimage my tablet and restore all of my docs and programs. Maybe I clicked something or did something that I normally wouldn't do.
I have a clean new installation of everything from Windows XP and Office 2003 and Security Essentials. It is all kept current with daily Windows Update action and File Hippo checking for updates. I use cCleaner to empty the Recycle Bin and clean up normal items. I do not use Windows to store any user names or passwords for websites.
Just a bit more info - I get this same issue if I log in to my Facebook on my other pc.
If I go to Facebook - Friends - Edit Friends - All Friends, I see these non-friends on that list. If I click the X Remove Friends, a small pops quickly that says LOADING and then disappears. Nothing ever "loads", starts or happens. That non-friend remains there on the All Friends list on this pc or any other pc, even after logging out and then back in.
If I attempt to click on their name on the All Friends list, it opens a new window with a Facebook page that says The page you requested was not found..You may have clicked an expired link or mistyped the address.
OK, so how long will this "expired" friend stay on my list and/or how do I get rid of it?
By the way, I don't use this pc for anything but using the Office 2003 aps WORD and EXCEL and IE8 to go to my bank account, Facebook, Jack FM, gMail, Yahoo! mail, Microsoft Answers, Tech Republic and watch the Larsen Lights show on YouTube (which we went to see in-person while visiting Chicago). That is the total extent of it's use for the past few months since the reimage.

Facebook code

by boxfiddler Moderator In reply to thanks - more info

is sloppy, if its behavior is any indication. You're not the only one with problems at Facebook. Their tech support is worse than their code.

Visit the profile page of each of the 'friends' you want to dump (as TobiF recommended) and choose the option at the lower left of the page to 'Unfriend' them.

If TobiF's post was helpful, as indicated by the 'Thanks' in your post title, mark it as such. For whatever reason, people who help like to collect those thumbs.

tried but fails still

When I click their name on my All Friends list, a window pops up saying The page you requested was not found..You may have clicked an expired link or mistyped the address. Maybe these "Friends" have been run out by Facebook or something else, and their profiles have been removed due to their abusive use of Facebook. Whatever the reason, I wonder when or if ever these Friends will be removed from my All Friends list.
I marked TobiF as Helpful even though I am long from over this mess. I just really appreciate the help from you folks. Facebook sure won't give me any help. Legally, I think they owe help to the clients that help them generate a business volume to attract advertisers - even if they give us their product for free.

NOT YOUR Wall and Friends via your profile.

by boxfiddler Moderator In reply to tried but fails still

Click on the profile of the friend you want to dump. Then follow previous instructions.

You have to go to THEIR Wall to find the links to Unfriend and/or Block them.

can't go to their Wall

by JADavis9 In reply to NOT YOUR Wall and Friends ...

When I go to my All Friends list and click on their name on it, a new window pops up that says The page you requested was not found. You may have clicked an expired link or mistyped the address. Some web addresses are case sensitive.
So they are out of business with Facebook. Maybe because they are bad guys who have broken the rules.
You can see this by trying to go to this "non-friend" on my list:
http://www.facebook.com/friends/edit/#!/amosyoungjr

Profile seems to be there...

by TobiF In reply to can't go to their Wall

I was redirected to http://www.facebook.com/amosyoungjr
And I can see the page of a person I've not "friended" yet.

Hmm

I suggest you clear your browser cache and restart your browser (or even reboot your computer). It could be that your browser is showing you cached remnants, but when you try to follow outdated links, you get errors instead.

I got right to

Mr. Young, Jr's page.

only see Add As Friend on their wall

by JADavis9 In reply to NOT YOUR Wall and Friends ...

I'm telling you ... I think there is a real problem in the Facebook system
I can only get to their profile by finding them by typing their name and searching for it. Then I see a Add As Friend on top and a Report/Block This Person down the left side. So I have blocked these non-friends that I find on my All Friends list. Now I have Blocked this Amos Young Jr again (he is a friend of Barack Obama and I am not!) and he is on the Blocked list twice in my Privacy Settings.
If I click on their name in my All Friends list it, I get a Facebook page that says
The page you requested was not found.
You may have clicked an expired link or mistyped the address. Some web addresses are case sensitive.
So when will this spammer idiot disappear from my All Friends list? Boy, does Facebook have a bad problem! I hate them right now. I have asked them for help on this a few weeks ago and they replied to establish that they were working on this problem for me and others with the same problem and would report back. I have sent it as a Bug Report to info+dd7uy@support.facebook.com
