Failed to Self Register OCX

By harry.mccabe ·
Trying to install software (Sametime & IP TV) on Win2K Pc. Both report "Warning: File(s) Failed to self register", and lists the files. For sametime the files are VpBase.ocx & Connect.ocx.

Software does not work as a result.

As this same warning happens with different software, I think my O/S is at fault, but open to any ideas.

Failed to Self Register OCX

Hi

There are two other ways of doing this.

1. Find the ocx file in question, right click and select register.

2. If that does not work then you can try the long winded way.
Goto Start>Run and type C:\WINNT\regsvr32.exe (space) <full path of the ocx file> and then click OK.

Have Fun

Failed to Self Register OCX

Thanks, but unfortunately there isn't an option to register when I right click, and manual registration using REGSVR32 gives the error; "LoadLibrary (filename) failed - The specified module could not be found"

Failed to Self Register OCX

OK Plan 'B'

You may or may not be aware OCX, DLL files and the like require to be registered and also the components that they link to must be of a certain version to work correctly. Possibly the simplest explanation would be that they are eitherthe wrong version of that required to install the application, or there is an application installed on the PC that has not been installed using an 'Install Wizard' such as free screen savers etc. Instaead of registering its self it would simply overwright the existing OCX file thus corrupting it and possibly parts of the O/S

There are dependancy viewers available to help you check try ZNET downloads

Failed to Self Register OCX

Thanks, problem solved. Got a utility from ZDNET downloads which flagged up my MVCRT.DLL as being the culprit. I suspect this was as a result of not reapplying my service pack after installing software.
