Failing HDD - Clone to New?

By twizler ·
I recently started recieve a SMART error upon booting the laptop, Stating there is imminent harddrive failure and to immediately back up files etc etc. So I will be purchasing a new (Western Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BEKT 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive).....The old drive was (Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BEVT 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive)....Ok now the problem I am facing is the old harddrive was OEM so it has a recovery partition etc etc on there, How do I go about basicly cloning the old hard drive to the new one? The old HDD is not completely dead yet but its getting very close........I am doing this on HP Pavillion DV7-1273CL Notebook.

Yes, you would use cloning software.

Actually, the new drive should come with that - or you can get it from the WD site. No extra steps as both drives are the same size.

If you want, you could also Clonezilla or Acronis or whatever.
