Failure to create Program Groups in NT 4

By lorelli ·
Does anyone know why certain installations fail to create program groups on an NT 4.0 Workstation machine?

I have seen this happen with a few products, but currently I am having a problem with Powerbuilder 7.0 by Sybase.

Version 6.5 did the same thing to me, but it would at least continue with the install. 7.0 kicks you out.

The only thing I can think of is you don't have any permissions to write to certain directories.

I would say either install the program under the admin group or get yourself added to the local machine's admin group.

On some systems I have where the sid got corrupted for one reason or another, I would have to add permissions there using regedt32. Find the sid under hkey users and under security and permission you can add yourself with full control. Make sure you check replace on existing subkeys, or it'll only be applied on one place.

Good luck to you
