Basically,
I want to create a website for myself & family. Here is what I would like to have.
* A blog for each of my immediate family members(4).
* The ability to backup that blog locally via download word or pdf format.
* I want to be able to host videos and link to my flickr pictures etc…
* I eventually want to add my family tree.
* I want to blog our family vacations & our time together.
My main concern is backups. I don’t want to do all of this work online in a blog and backup the mysql database and one day something crashes and I can’t get it working again because of a version change or something. I just don’t feel secure with those types of backups because I don’t know that much about it. Should I go with a service or make my own? I use flickr and it’s great.
As far as my skills go I can install scripts, databases, and do some editing in php, just basic stuff.
Finally, my question.
Can you guys recommend a host, and scripts to achieve the above? I know about wordpress and others but I would to here from someone who has actually has used good blogging & website software. Also, any ideas would be greatly appreciated
