Fatal Error

I am trying to download a driver for my scanner from HP. It goes all the way to where it is almost complete, and then it stops, and I get an error popping up. “FATAL ERROR”. I am wondering if this is because when I boot up I get a plain message in the upper left hand corner of the screen that says “Invalad Boot.INI File Booting from C:\Windows”. I just now had to press this machine into service. It also has that WinBlast in the start up config. I did uncheck it, but I don’t know how to permanently get rid of it.
