Fatal Error Exception

By banndl ·
I have this Fatal Exception OE at 0028:C168B8D3 in VXD MCSCAN32(01) at 000278A3 after I installed the Mcafee 4.03. At first I get the blus screen when I was using Internet Explorer than I uninstalled the Mcafee and reinstalled back. Now I still get the blue screen but with Eudora.

Can someone help me on this?

You didnt give much to go on. Do you have Win98, 95, were you running something else etc. However,
delete temporary internet files
try running scandisk (check Thorough option)
and Disk defragmenter.

If those 3 things dont help (these are regular maintenance items that should be done once a week or more often)
reload your operating system. My MCSE instructor suggests reloading your operating system at least once per year. It cleans out any corrupt files, plus any junk files you are not useing.
Finally, Win 95/98 are not reliable operating systems, and you should consider updating to Win 2000 professional which is a much more reliable system. (watch your compatability, tho as Win2000 wont run everything Win 9x will)

I am using a Dell Optiflex GX1 128MB RAM and running win98. I have already tried to reload the OS and reinstalled the Mcafee but still doesn't work. But when I installed Mcafee 402, I never get the blue screen error.

We have close to 100 PCs configured exactly as you have stated. McAfee v 4.5.1 seems to be fine we had a similure problem with 4.5.0 with PCs that had the SQL Client. Get the latest version and I think you'll be not only safe from virus infection but it shouldn't die on you.

Make sure you have the latest updates from Microsoft before you install McAfee.

I had the same problem, two diffrent ways to fix it. The first one worked for me. Update your virus files and run a scane in safe mode, found sircam. The next is remove the scanner from boot up and put in the start menu because it picks up drive managers and other things at boot up it dont like. I found this on symantics web site.
