Fatal Exception after installing Mcaffee

I have a Compaq EXD/P1.0 which I just installed from scratch (W98SE Quick Restore).
All went well until I Installed McAffee.
Now when I reboot the PC I get 2 fatal exceptions:
0E in 0028:04cd0f9e and
0D in 0246:014747fb
After hitting any key the computer works fine, but I want this machine to start without errors.
I have tried a patch both from Microsoft and Compaq to resolve the shutdown problem, but now I have a start up problem.
Can anyone help me resolve this problem?
