Fatal exception error

By sbhuck ·
I have been using Nero Express to format cds. It has been a while since I last used the Incd feature to format a cd-rw. The other day I tried to format a cd, and it seemed to format all right, but when it went to check for "bad, defective sectors", it reached anywhere from 59% to 81% complete, and then it stopped checking. The time continued to run, but eventually the computer froze up, and I then get a Windows Fatal exeception error at 0028:.
I have tried everything that Nero's F&Qs say to try, but nothing works.
I have downloaded their newest version of Incd, and have followed thier exact instructions about installing it but the results are the same.
I checked with Micrsosoft, and they said to restore my computer to the last properly working regsitry. I followed thier directions about using scanreg to find last properly working registry. they said any proper working registry would have the word "Started" behind it. Every registry listed had "started" behind it, which means my registry is working correctly.
What then is causing the Fatal exception errors?
Why do I only get these errors when using Nero Incd program, and with no other program I am running?
How do I get passed this problem, so I can successfully format my cd-rws to use them for saving data on?
I have been sent a support report to Nero, but after 4 days I still have not heard from them.
All other parts of the Nero Express program works perfectly.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Wilbur Huck
PS
I have the following icons in my System tray:
1. Task scheduler
2. Kerio Firewall
3. ATI

8. Nero Incd
9. Roboform
10. Download Accelerator (DAP)
11. Nprotect (Nortons's Systems Woks 2003 Pro)
12. Mozilla 1.7.2
These are the pograms which are running when I am tryimg to format my cd-rws using Incd.
Thanks
Wilbur Huck

If nero is giving you the problem uninstall it completely restart the machine then reinstall it. If the problem pursuits the error is on the program in which you are trying to burn. You can check it out by burning something else to see if you get the error if you dont then you know it is what you are trying to burn.

I am not trying to burn a program, that part of Nero works fine. What Iam trying to do is format a cd-rw to use as afloppy disk to save various programs to from my computer by clicking and dropping them on the formatted cd-rw.
I also have unistalled and reinstalled Nero Express, and this has not helped.
I hope this is a better expalantion of my problem which I need to solve.
thanks

If you have installed mediaplayer, it can give you some problems, look at this:http://www.nero.com/en/FAQs_InCD4.html#6

Thank you for putting me on the right track. I went to the Nero web page, and I downloaded the Nero 6 Demo. I was so impressed with what it could do, I am in the process of getting my OEM version Nero 5.5 registered so I can purchase the Nero 6 Ultra Ediiton for August special price of 49.99 using the upgrade method and my OEM serial number.
Thanks again.

You don't mention your OS. If using W2K or XP there is a file for reading UDF cds that might be in conflict with UDF files of the formatting software.

Temporarily rename the Windows udf files and see if that helps.

Hi, the problem seems 2 be more critical so don think my suggestion as irrelevant. just try it.
> restart in safe mode
> start->Run-> type msconfig (if win 98/xp)
> remove all programs that are running.
> shutdown the computer
> re-fix the cd-rw in the cpu
> check the nero settings if u don know the settings, try restoring defaults like option

Since this is in W98, I am assuming that is the OS. Reboot into DOS and run:
c:\scanreg /fix

You should also check for Malware, which is rampant now and can cause all manner of problems. If you are unfamiliar with spyware/Malware, check out the articles at:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1523357,00.asp

Some good Malware fighters are:

For the Spyware/Malware the two best Free scanners are AdAware 6 at:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
And Spybot Search & Destroy version 1.3 at:
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
After Installing each check for updates before proceeding. Both have several cool tricks, Adaware has a custom search that can search your Hosts file and your archived files as well. SPpybot S&amp has an new program called Teatime that doesn't install by default you have to check the box ehn you are installing. SPybot S&amp also has an Immunization program.

Another excellent program is SpySweeper from www.webroot.com, it allows for one update and then you need to purchase to get anymore updates. It will find a lot that the two free one didn't.

I also use PestPatrol which also costs money. It is located at:
http://www.pestpatrol.com/ and they have a free pest scan if you can stay on the Internet long enough.

Steve Gibson also has several really good security tools as well as his famopus "Shields UP" tester at:
