Fax Software

By johnson-clayton ·
A friend runs a small business and he gets allot of fax but he doesn't want to print all of the faxes. Currently he is using a stand alone fax machine to send and receive faxs.

Is there a software package that would allow him to download faxes from the fax machine into his computer and then read or print faxs from their?

If he has XP, XP has its own fax service. He can send/receive faxes from his pc. Its found in Start>Programs>Accessories>Comunications>fax

If its not there, you have to go to add/remove programs>Windows Components and install it from your XP cd.

your friend needs to remove the fax machine and at minimum place a fax/modem in a computer (I would reccommend one dedicated to the task of managing faxes) but I suppose it wouldn't be necessary. There are a number of software packages - a watered down one will come with the fax board for free. This would allow him to review and print the faxes he needs.

If he doesn't have a scanner for outgoing faxes, you should be able to leave the fax machine on but set it to NOT auto answer. Split the phone line one branch to the fax and one to the computer with the fax board/modem. This will allow him to send faxes from either location depending on the content
