Fiber channel configuration by-passing fiber channel switch

by planes_trains_autos . Updated 13 years, 5 months ago

I am looking into replacing my current iSCSI SAN with 4Gb fiber channel cards. My setup up would have (2) dual port Qlogic cards in the SAN connected directly to two VMWare hosts that have (1) dual port Qlogic card in them. One host would connect with both ports to one card in the SAN and the other host would connect with both ports to the other card in the SAN. This would be a direct conection therefore by-passing a fiber switch. Since I am new to fiber channel and have a very small enviroment (why i do not want to by a switch) my question is will this work or is there any caveats I should address? I know I can connect direct port to port in a one port config but did not know if this config would create problems. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
