In an NT 4.0 server, how can I make sure that the Merge option in the file association on the .REG file type set to run standard text editor?

Open up windows explorer and select Tools in the menubar. next (folder)options and go to file types there you can select the file and association. Another method is to hold down the shift key and rightclick on the .reg file select Open With... and make sure you check the box at the nottoom of the window to always open with that application.
Hope this helps

When you go to look at the .REG extension properties, first click on the Edit action and then click the Edit button (confusing, isn't it?) You should see this, "C:\WINNT\system32\NOTEPAD.EXE" -- except with your value for sysroot. Use ctrl+c to copy it. Now, cancel, select the Merge action and click edit. Just paste using ctrl+v and close. you're there now.
