File Association

I have a user on NT 4.0 sp6a using Office XP. If he tries to open and Excel attachment from Outlook it will not open. Also if he saves it to his hard drive and tries to open it through Windows Explorer it will give him another error saying that itcan not find the file specified. If he opens Excel and browses for the file it will open the file. I have reinstalled sp6a, reinstalled sp1 and 2 for Office XP as well as reinstalled Office XP; I have deleted the file association and created a new one. Word, Access and Power Point work fine. Does anybody have any suggestion of what to do next? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
