File associations

I had a virus, kak.htm, which was removed, but one of the files was help.hta in the Windows directory, and after this file was removed, the file associations window (Open with ...)popped up, not once, but many times.
So I linked help.hta to Excel, now its even worse, as Excel takes longer to load, before it says it can't load it. How do I get rid of this? There are no help.hta or *.hta files in the system and no references to them in the registry or startup folder.

Seems as though you did not get all of the virus,the *.hta files could be associated to the virus,use the Find,Files or Folders and type in the name of the file as listed and delete the file association,then a good idea would be to reload Excel.

The help.hta file is part of the VBS.Haptime.A@mm worm virus. You can find info about it at:

//www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/vbs.haptime.a@mm.html">http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/vbs.haptime.a@mm.html

I would remove the link to Excel and then run an updated virus checker and follow anyother instructions listed at the site above.
