File & Directory (Folder) Guideliness

by j.wallace In reply to File & Directory (Folder) ...

I tried answering this yesterday. Hmmmm. Anyway, here are my own guidelines.

1. The names should make sense to the appropriate users - basically anyone who has access to those folders.
2. The names should not have spaces - use hyphens '-' or underscores '_' instead.
3. The path shouldn't be too long, limit the number of subfolders when feasible. Some display windows will cut off the end of the path.
4. Avoid mixing numbers and letters, especially confusing combinations such as 0O, 1I, 1l,2Z, 3E, 4F, 5S, 6G, 8B, 9P, etc.
5. Whatever you choose, be consistent. Even better - across the whole department or company.

Hoping this helps,
Rick
