File extensions

What is the easiest way to change a file extension in windows 2000. i have a file that is a .exe and is continually opening with a dos prompt which it should not be doing.

Changing the extension will only render this program inoperable. It sounds like it is probably a Dos-based application, in which case opening with a Dos prompt is normal.
If you want to try anyway, you can change the extension by renaming the fileusing Windows explorer. Simply highlight the file and click FILE/RENAME, or click it again after it is already highlighted (not a doubleclick) and rename it.

It was Actually an .ISO file named as a .EXE. I don't know why this was done but i just went to the DOS prompt and renamed it there.
