File/Folder Hierarchy Suggestions?

by galahad04 . Updated 24 years, 8 months ago

I was wondering if someone could please give me some pointers on effective techniques for making file and folder hierarchies under the “My Documents” folder in Windows, as well as for folders created to organize e-mail messages? The reason I ask isalthough I have been good about making various folders in Windows and not storing all of e-mail in the Inbox folder, I believe I am currently suffering from micromanagement of too many folders in each. For example, I have folders in each based on names, subjects, and even school courses, and some of these overlap regarding the content stored within them. For instance ? I have one e-mail folder titled with my professor’s name, as well another folder (on the same level) for his class, and sometimes I am not sure whether to put e-mail in the folder with his name or the folder for the class. Therefore, could anyone please give some advice on how I can eliminate redundancy, how many subfolders I should have for each folder, and general tips on folder management in general? (For example, should you base folder titles ONLY by name, ONLY by subject, etc.?) Thanks
