File/ print sharing stops intermittantly

By kennedy ·
Win98SE station can access network resources but will not accept requests to use it's resources. At time of malfunction this station will respond to pinging. When trying to browse it the response is path not found. After a reboot you can again gain access to it's resources.

If connection is restored after reboot seems network connection get interrupted (look into hibernation/standby settings) or issues arrise when the station opens before the network or vice versa. Try R-clicking the network icon in the romote station and select "search for computers", which sometimes wakes a computer up. Or a mapped drive might be more consistent.

Make sure that the option to share resources has not been deactivated or corrupted.

From the Network configuration dialog check to make sure that the option to share local files and printers is activated. If it is activated then deactivate it, reboot, then re-activate it.

Looks like a stupid trick, but it actually works with surprising frequency. Another testament to the crappy programming that is Windows.
