File Restore Function in Vista

By brent.harknett ·
What is the procedure to restore a backup file in Vista. I do nightly backups to another drive, and when I had to re-image a drive on the users box I have not been able to access the bkf that is on the other drive. When I go into the where the files are backup I can see the last fileand it is in a compressed zip file format. But when I run File restore it will not give me the option to restore from that location! What am I overlooking?

Zip format.

Wrong tool for the job. You are using ZIP for a backup retrieval of a compressed file.

Go to the directory from the GUI and unzip it where you want it.

Duh!

Mis-understanding

Let me try this again! If you are trying to restore the file from the "File Backup" that is created from the Vista tool "Backup Status and Configuration" under accessories and it does not show you the backup file you want, what do you suggest to retreive it? I guess the default setting when the backup runs is to save it in .zip format obviously to save space, make sense!
