File Server Hardware change

Getting ready to change out a file server. The server name will need to stay the same. It is currently a domain controller, but I will demote it and it will not be a DC after the hardware change. Here’s my question: There are around 1000 shares (user directories, public directories…) on this server. I will be doing a clean 2000 install on the new server. What is the best way to maintain all the share names so client pcs can still connect via the shares. Permissions and security will also need to be preserved. Just not clear on how to accomlish this.
