File Server Migration Toolkit

By dmull ·
I need to transfer data, shares and permissions from a Windows 2000 member server to Windows 2003 member server. I would like to use the File Server Migration toolkit, but I want to be sure that after I transfer the files to the new windows 2003 server that my users can still temporarily use the original file server until I do some testing on the new one and remap their drives. Anyone work with this tool that knows the answer?

Hi Dear,
Yes you can do so... there is a option where you have to uncheck the. the option is "Dont stop the Sharing"

I am using the File Server Migration Toolkit, but when it reaches certain files, presumably they are still open on, or being used my another resource.

the toolkit doesn't copy those files!!

Can you shed some light on to the issue. or do i have to go through disconnecting the server and loading the data on via tape backups?
