I am trying to upgrade a file server from windows server 2000 to windows server 2003 and ran into 2 major problems I never came across before. First this office is on one large workgroup there is no active directory and I need to transfer all of the information in local users and group from the 2000 server to the new 2003 server. I am trying to avoid having to put in all the users and groups info manually with their entire configuration. Secondly and this is my major problem the LAN is a token ring and they moving over to Ethernet slowly. The server that manages the Norton anti-virus was on the token ring but is now on Ethernet. The other two servers that are in the antivirus server group that are still on token ring and I can’t change them yet. Now I can’t unlock the server groups so I can’t add the new file server to any server groups. I updated the host files on all 4 systems they can communicate. I can ping back and forth, navigate to each system through explore to shared drive, but will not see each other in my network places and most important the antivirus won’t sync. I’m stuck and would really appreciate any help. I use windows live messenger I can be contacted there also. Thanks in advance.
