File Sharing problems...

By davidlocklar ·
I have a small home network consisting of a desktop and a wireless laptop. I have shared folders on each box, but I cannot see the folders on my desktop from the laptop. I can however view the shared folders on the laptop from the desktop. Why?

Disable all firewalls on the 2 PCs and see if
the shared resources are visible. If they are
then they will have to be configured correctly.

While I have no experience with wlan, all my
problems with sharing resource over a network
have always been related to firewalls (not
configured correctly).

Too little information; and, ...

you are in the wrong forum.

This is a tech. problem, in search of a solution.

It properly belongs in "Technical Q&A," not in "Discussions."

Not only will you be more likely to attract the attention of those seeking to provide answers, but you will also make it easier for those seeking discussions to find such.

Regardless of whether or not you re-post to the Q&A area, you'll need to provide information re. your installation.

1) What OS are you running on each machine;
2) What method of networking are you using;
3) What protocols is your net running;
4) What, if any, firewalls are in place, both software (either as part of the OS or as a standalone application) & hardware (which may be incorporated into a router);
5) Do you have FULL access to the laptop files from your desktop, or, for example, READ access only.
