File Sync Software – across the WAN

by carol . Updated 23 years, 4 months ago

I have a very active user, who works 50 percent of the time (or less) from the office. The other portion of time he works at home from his desktop, or on the road on his laptop.

He asked me if there was a method for him to sychronize all his Documents & mail to his computer at home, while he is maybe sleeping in the middle of night.

He has very large amounts of data, his PST folder for outlook alone is very significant. And by the way reducing the size of his PST is not an option.

SoI did a search on Google and located LapLink gold, which would allow me to assign a Port on our router for the software’s use, I like that. I also have XP Remote Desktop configured for him, and NT4 VPN. He knows how to manually go in and grab files, but this is what he wants to stop doing. He wants a process that works as automatically as possible for him.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone experienced with this software, or similar softwares which could offer this user, what he wants. I’d also like to hear about any drawbacks or considerations. I know top of the list is consideration for the WAN link. We have DSL at the office, and he has a satellite connection from his home. (good on download speeds, poor on upload).
