I have a mixed environment, from choice, with W2K servers and workstations, XP and Win NT linked on a 100Mb/s network. When I transfer large files between any pair of machines it is extremely slow, with short bursts up to 60Mb/s. A 100MB file can take 10 minutes and I often get “Specified Network name is no longer available”. Even using a cross-over cable between 2 W2K workstations is the same. Any ideas why this is happeneing and how can I get my network up to its optimal speed?
