We just put in a new server in a branch office – Win 2003 (had been an NT4). Since then, one user is complaining that when she does a search on the server (mapped drive), and then double-clicks on a file that is found to open it, she gets an error (not always, but enough to be annoying): the file “cannot be opened or retrieved: the file cannot be found.” Occasionally the error says something about “invalid path” (I haven’t seen that one, don’t know the exact wording). The file DOES exist, and IS there, if she goes directly to it in WordPerfect, it opens right up. But it won’t open from the search results. Any ideas?
She’s using XP SP2. Server is Windows 2003 R2. She’s using WordPerfect 12. Don’t know if it would happen with anything else, they only use WP files. It doesn’t happen with every file, seems to be sporadic, but frequent. Don’t know if it affects anybody else, as she’s the only one in that office who searches (I guess everybody else knows where their stuff is.) I’ve asked them to play with it to clarify this. I’ve tried it from here and have not encountered the problem yet, but haven’t done much (it’s slow over the WAN). I’m happy to provide any more info you might want…
