Files deleted in server from terminal not found...

By tsunami0377 ·
Hi, I have a problem with a directory that a user deleted from his terminal, I wasn't able to find the deleted directory in the server. Not a trace of it, not in recycle bin or anywhere else. If somebody can tell me please what can I do, or at least why I can?t recover the files it will be of much use so I can explain it to the user. Thanks in advance. The terminal OS is WinXP, the server OS is Windows 2000 Server.

Network drives and deleting

If you delete a file off of a network drive on Win servers, it does not go to the server's recycle bin or the users. It is just deleted. If you were running Novell, it would go to the salvage folder if you had salvage runnning on the server. You would need to add some software to the Win system such as Diskeepers Undelete (Network edition I think) to trap the delete.

Just another thought...

If you do buy Undelete, it will allow you to salvage files before you install it, so you do not overwrite them. I have used this on my pc a few times to recover accidently deleted items.
