Files Not Being Retained

By jgreer ·
We are running Windows 2000 Servers Active Directory with Windows NT 4.0 svc pack 6a users. Some of our users have created files and then cannot locate them the following day and we cannot locate the records in the profile history or backups. This occurs with users who log off the network and those who do not regularly. Any ideas how we can solve this problem?

could they be updating local(cached) info thinking that it is on the server?
Could they be forgetting to "save" before they close an updated page?

No. They are saving files as I can locate it in the recently used documents as a shortcut but it cannot locate the original file.

If this is for roaming profiles you should enable auditing of object access on the share point that holds the profile. You have to do this at two points, first in Active Directory, then at the share point. See if you have someone maliciously deleting documents.

If not, I would think that people are not saving the files to the appropriate location as stated in the previous answer.
