Finally wiping O2K left my IE5 short

By superbat ·
Trials & tribulations of trying to get rid of O2k. After finally getting rid of most of the traces of O2k with the MS O2K eraser, I found the reloaded Outlook97 would not work, 'cause O2K changed the mail setup. Got that fixed by changing Mail settings back to mspst32.dll, but now noticed that IE5 is short on fonts, 'cause O2k eraser erased fonts it was using. IE5 doesn't complain, but it's almost unreadable for a few fonts. Anyone got an Idea how to recover here?
It thinks it has all the latest, cause that's what the record of updates says. If you think that there are no problems with O2k, just try to get rid of it on a test machine... Just an experiment to learn from

You can recover IE5 by repairing the installation
Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel, double click the Add/Remove programs icon, then locate IE5 in list,highlightIE5,then click on the add/remove button, select the button to repair installation on the pop-up menu that appears.
If this does not work you will have to restore to previous and then reinstall IE5 from scratch

Would you believe it? I tried repair: No Luck. I restored to previous: No Luck. I re-loaded IE5.5: No Luck. Clearly, it's a font thing, 'cause your ID, as well as the body of my questio are in an incredibly indecipherable font... Very chunky & near unreadable... Why can't I simply copy fonts to my system from another to fix this? All that work for naught!!!

Got it!!! Simply re-loading the fonts that O2k eraser deleted (!!!) fixed the problem. Didn't need the whole backup & re-load trip. As soon as I reloaded Ariel (!!!) & Times New Roman (!!!) I got functionality (!!!) Whatever that is...
So here's a warning: If you load Office 2000, don't expect to survive any attempts to remove it. It has hooks into everything that Microsoft doeswn't even remove. I still get asked for my O2K CD when I run spell check. I cancel the box & then Word 97 takes over. Only Microsoft could get away with such a monster & still have people saying how great they are!
