I am trying to find a way to ping a https:// (secure) website to obtain its IP address. When trying to do it by its name https://xxxxx.com it says that it cannot be found. I realize that many sites have turned off the ability to have its IP shown, but how would someone know what the IP is? We have a web filter that requires the IP address to allow a secure site, and cannot enter it until I figure it out.

Just in case you haven't tried this already--I tried "pinging" my bank's https:// by cutting and pasting the exact URL that comes up just after I log on. Didn't work. But when I deleted everything after the ".com", I did get a response. You probably did this already, but just in case...
One other stupid question, are you 100% sure you have the text URL exactly correct? Can you try logging in to the secure server from a PC that is not subject to the web filter, using the text URL?
Keep in mind that the site may have dynamic ip so allowing just an ip in the web filter may stop accesing that webpage in case the webserver changed it's ip.
There is no other way to allow a secure webpage that is being blocked with a surfcontrol web filter except to allow it by IP. If I did not have to use the IP, I wouldnt.
