Find Fast halting processor

By pauljaker ·
Having an odd problem with Find Fast halting Windows 98 system. First off, what is FindFast? Secondly, in most cases when I am using IE 5 my Floppy Dive is called upon at different times and will hang up my system. When I use task manager I notice the offending program is Find Fast. When I end program system resumes to normal. However, there are times I need to completely shutdown. Like I said this symptom is happening while I am using dial up connection and IE 5. I ran MSconfig and verified it is not part of my startup routine. This is starting to become a nuisance!

You'll find FindFast in your control pane. It's an indexer that's part of Microsoft Office. You can start and stop it in Control Panel

Find Fast causes multiple problems. Disabling it is a good start (in control panel) but beware...remember to remove it from your startup group as well.

The Find Fast Indexer is a utility that builds indexes to speed finding documents using the Open and Open Office Documents commands in Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Outlook.

For more information regarding Find Fast, refer to theMSDN article "OFF2000: Overview of Find Fast Indexer", which is located at:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q205/2/89.ASP

Your problem is addressed in detail in the MSDN article "OFF2000: Performance Issues After Installing Find Fast", which may be found at:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q200/3/06.ASP

(If the URLs above do not work, locate and remove any spaces inserted by the TechRepublic system.)

As mentioned in the previous answers, you *can* simply disable Find Fast; the solution above gives you the opportunity to optimize the performance of Find Fast.

Hope this helps...
