Find Files and Folders disappeared?

By Daz'n'Ash ·
I have dealt with many strange problems with computers, but this one is new to me. How can the Find Files and Folders option disappear not only from the start menu, but appraently from the system? Not even the keyboard shortcut Start + F will work. Also the right click function on the mouse seems limited too. No longer can I right click anywhere in the system, but it does work if I right click a web page. Any suggestions out there to fix this?

Some suggestions

Perplexing problem. Some suggestions:

1. Try removing and then re-installing the Windows Indexing Service. Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components -> Indexing Service.

2. Try running the "System File Checker": Start -> Run -> sfc /scannow . You will need your Windows XP CD when you run this command.

If either of these work, or if you fix it some other way, please post back with how this turns out.

sfc /scannow & Indexing Service.

by Daz'n'Ash In reply to Some suggestions

sfc /scannow did nothing. However, removing and reinstalling Indexing Service brought back the Search function. It did not resolve the problem of the System Restore being disabled and will not allow me to turn it back on.
