Find out what port is pointing to a cert

By reddn ·
I have tried to ask this in "PC Troubleshooting" with not help, but I didn't give enough information, so here it goes. What I mean by find out what port is pointing to a certain program, is that like if you have a web server running on port 80, or a trojen on port 2358. You can find out that your port 80 or port 2358 is open and waiting for a connection w/ commands, but you dont know what program the commands goto. That is the reason for my question. If anyone has anymore trouble with my question please email me and I will give you EVEN more detail.

Find out what port is pointing to a cert

Hi!

No you can't find that out.

You can use a portscan program and find out which ports are open, but to figure out which program is running on the ports you'll need to try and do stuff to the port like telnet or anything.

Since anyone can put both a telnet server and ftp server on any port at all.

If you like you can have a ftp server running on port 6000 that is usually used for IRC servers.

There is no way of finding out exactly what program is openning a TCP/UDP Port on your PC. You can however find out what programs would open a port up normally , this is in the SERVICES file. It lists the known ports. Also there are RFC's that list all well known ports and what should be opening them.
