Finding all cookies on a PC

By jed.bartlett ·
I would like to efficiently find all cookies on my WIN98 & NT PC's by using the START>FIND FILES/FOLDERS facility.
Although cookies are just text files they seem somehow 'invisible' to this search facility.
Any suggestions on a neat way to do this?

1)Locate the cookies text folder on your C:\drive
2)Using search type-cookie *.*
3)Use the DOS command type EDIT
4)IE you could use Tools-Find-Files
5)You can also use a text editor like word pad to edit cookies
Hope this Helps

Answer did not solve the problem which is to efficiently find all cookies on a PC. There is no search type - cookies - on my advanced tab of find files. Further, cookies can exist in a number of folders on C eg cookies, temporary internet folders, etc
Note I DO NOT want to edit cookies, only to find ALL of them.
The challenge remains open :-)

Most cookies are in the Temporary Internet Files Directory (C:\windows\temporary internet files\content.ie5, for example). The directories listed beneath contain all of your cookies. Some of these may not be visible under windows. If that is the case, go to a dos prompt and do a directory listing of those directories. They should show up that way.

to find ALL MSIE cookies from START/FIND/FILES&FOLDERS, where it says NAMED:, you type cookie*
(BUT FIRST SELECT THE DRIVE LETTER FROM THE LOOK IN: DROP DOWN BOX)
This will find the DIRECTORIES containing the cookies.
STANDARD LOCATIONS:
C:\WINDOWS\COOKIES\
C:\WINDOWS\PROFILES\<insert all the user profiles on the system, one at a time>\COOKIES\
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\COOKIES ((an occasional bug puts them here))
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETSCAPE\USERS\<user name>\cookies.txt

Also, a mirrored file(in a buggy 98 box) will appear in C:\WINDOWS\LOCAL SETTINGS\ ,but not always

ALL COOKIE INFO IS DUPLICATED IN THE SAME DIRECTORIES UNDER index.dat (right click, choose "open with..." use notepad.exe)
they always contain in first line "client url cache", so you can find them by filling the find form out like this...
NAME index.dat
CONTAINING TEXT: client url cache
LOOK IN: C:(or whatever drive you are scanning, but always search from the top level)

This works, I do it all the time, clean out the cookies and temp files from EVERYWHERE before I do the weekly DEFRAG.
