finding hidden files

By sbhuck ·
How do I find the hidden files in "my documents"?
I need to access them inorder to delete some of them. They show up as being on "My Documents", but if you go to "my Documents", they are not there.
Thanks

From the root folder in a dos prompt.

c:>dir *.* /a:h /s

This will list all the hidden files on your harddisk.

However, what do you mean by showing up as being on 'My Documents', because I think there might be something else amiss here?

In order to delete the hidden files in your "My Docs" folder, this is what to do.

Open a DOS window
Change directories to the My Documents folder
use the attrib command shown below:

attrib -r -h -s *.*

This unhides all the files and now you can delete the ones you do not want.

yes, if the previous answer is not what you're after, perhaps you are referring to the 'recently used documents list' in your Start menu? if that is the case, here is an excerpt from MSKB article Q151764 that might help...
=======================================
SUMMARY
This article describes how to remove an individual item from the Documents list on the Start menu.
MORE INFORMATION
To remove an item from the Documents list, follow these steps:

Using Windows Explorer, open the Windows\Recent folder.
Use the right mouse button to click the item you want to remove, and then click Delete on the menu that appears.
Note that this removes only the shortcut from the Windows\Recent folder. The actual document itself is not removed.

Windows normally "hides" files associated w/ the OS as it makes it harder to "accidently delete" those files necessary to operate that famous OS. You don't want to delete any of them as that will lead to prob's. in the future.

Do this. Start>Settings>Task Bar & Start Menu>Start Menu Programs Tab>Documents Menu Clear Button (Left Click)>Then OK. The "My Documents" Shortcut Menu is now cleared of "Recently Accessed Document Files.

I hope that is what you were referring to wanting to delete.

If it isn't, please give a couple of the names of some of the files & their (.ext) file extensions (& the actual OS you are using), and maybe we can all figure out exactly where you are going w/ this delete question.
