Finding/Saving macro/dictionary files

By MJA ·
I need to find and save macros and dictionary files in Word. Does anyone know where and what they are stored as? The macros are not part of the documents (medical billing docs) and I am changing a friends computer that has a lot of macros and dictionary items to save. Help!!

Thanks.

Finding/Saving macro/dictionary files

Dictionary files end with the extension DIC. Macros can be stored in documents, but normally they're saved in templates. The major location will be in a file called Normal.dot.
To be safe, I would save every file that ends with DOT and then move them to the new machine. Location can be important so try to put them back in the correct folder.
Some of this will depend on the version of Word. No problem if you're using the same one.
MS has an article about where settings are stored. Type the following in the address box of Internet Explorer:

MSKB Q172674

You also might want to look at:

MSKB Q186237

This talks about the ACL files that contain AutoCorrect entries
